On The Feast Of Saint Lucy

My Christian formation in the Protestant tradition left some serious holes in my understanding.

One of these holes regarded the Saints – the lives they lived, the role models they present, as well as the respect and remembrance owed to them.

It was one thing to refer to the Apostles as Saints. That was easily done. But all these other canonized Saints?

They were never mentioned.

I find their lack of mention particularly sad. Especially considering that their lived examples cost so many of them their lives during seasons of dire persecution.

One of the many beautiful things about the Catholic Church is that the canonized Saints are not forgotten. The exemplary examples of their devotion to Christ and his Church are respected, remembered, and celebrated as role models of our Christian faith.

Saint Lucy
Virgin and Martyr
283 – 304 AD

She became a martyr at 21 years of age because of her fervent love for Christ.

Lucia of Syracuse, also known as Saint Lucy or Saint Lucia, was a Christian martyr who died during the Diocletianic Persecution. She is venerated as a saint by the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, and Orthodox Churches.
